Where the record lives.
Patient material is the most sensitive thing most clinicians hold. The useful question is not whether a company says it cares. It is where the record is, who can read it, and what happens to it after.
Where it is
Rolltop runs on your Mac, and the record stays there.
It's an app you install, not a website you sign in to. There is no copy of your record anywhere else.
What leaves
Nothing, unless you export it.
A note, letter or document leaves when you copy or export it, and a backup goes wherever you save it. Rolltop never connects to the internet. There's no account and no tracking. Your licence is checked on your Mac. Updates are downloads you choose; Rolltop never checks for them by itself. Our tests watch every connection during a real transcription, and fail if there is one.
The session
The audio is deleted once the transcript is saved.
The transcript is kept, because it's what the note is drafted from.
The transcript
Reading a transcript takes your PIN.
It locks again after 30 seconds idle, and it can't be exported or copied out. Your PIN is eight characters or more. If you forget it, your recovery code resets it.
What the PIN does not do
The PIN keeps a transcript from anyone at your unlocked Mac. It does not protect the disk.
FileVault does that. Turn it on in System Settings. It protects everything on your Mac, Rolltop's record included.
Psychotherapy notes
Your own notes about a patient stay apart from the record.
They never appear in a note, letter or document you send.
Backups
A backup is one sealed file.
Only your PIN or your recovery code opens it. Keep it somewhere safe; we can't open it for you.
Support
We never ask for your record, and we never see it.
Help works without patient data. If something goes wrong, what Rolltop saves about it holds no patient words, and it stays on your Mac until you choose to send it.
A BAA
You don't need one.
Under HIPAA, a business associate is someone who creates, receives, keeps or sends your patients' information for you. We never do any of those.
Training
Nothing you write trains a model.
Not ours, not anyone's, not in summary, not with names taken out.
Who can buy
Rolltop is sold only to licensed clinicians.
We check your licence and your ID before your copy is issued. Trainees can buy with a licensed supervisor.
This website
This site has no analytics, trackers or ads.
No third-party scripts. The made-up session and the PIN lock run only in your browser; nothing you type in them is sent anywhere.
